Introduction

The Lifelong Learning Programme: education and training opportunities for all. The European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme enables people at all stages of their lives to take part in stimulating learning experiences, as well as helping to develop the education and training sector across Europe.

The LLP provides grants for all areas of education, training and learning. It provides opportunities for organisations, staff and learners involved in education and training across Europe to work together, learn from each others' expertise, and widen their experience of other cultures and languages.

With a budget of nearly €7 billion for 2007 to 2013, the programme funds a range of actions including exchanges, study visits and networking activities.

There are four sub-programmes which fund projects at different levels of education and training and each aimed at a specific target group:

  Leonardo - Vocational Education and Training

The Leonardo da Vinci programme is helping European citizens to acquire new skills, knowledge and qualifications, and have them recognised across borders in order to improve their employability on changing labour markets. It also supports innovations and improvements in vocational education and training systems and practices. Leonardo supports the development of skills and training. It funds work placements for trainees, workers and staff, and supports European projects to discuss common issues or develop training materials, courses and frameworks. Leonardo can help your organisation improve its training provision and share good practice with other countries.

  Grundtvig - Adult Education

This programme is a passport to training opportunities for adult education organisations, teachers and learners. Adult educators can be involved in structured courses, conferences and even job shadowing. Organisations can be part of exciting partnerships and projects to share innovation and good practice in adult learning.

  Erasmus - Higher Education

Erasmus is the European exchange programme for higher education students, teachers, staff and institutions. It enables students to work or study in another European country as part of their degree. Erasmus also provides funding support for teaching or training visits for staff to other institutions and enterprises in Europe. This programme encourages students and staff from Higher Education for work and study, and promotes trans-national co-operation projects among universities across Europe

  Comenius – Schools

Comenius is one of the most popular international education programmes for Schools. This programme addresses the teaching and learning needs of all those in pre-school and school education up to the level of the end of upper secondary education, and the institutions and organisations providing such education. Comenius aims to boost the quality of school education, strengthen its European dimension and promote mobility, language learning and greater inclusion through exchanges and cooperation between schools in different countries. It is open to all active members of the school education community.

Transversal - Learning professionals

Transversal Study Visits are for everyone who oversees education and training provision. The programme funds a range of short, intensive Study Visits for education and vocational training specialists across Europe.

Jean Monnet
This programme includesactions which stimulate teaching, reflection and debate on European integration, involving higher education institutions worldwide.
